Great news, after a year-and-a-half hiatus and quite the emotional rollercoster, the offline version of Wikipedia is back!
You can download it at browse.library.kiwix.org and we recommend you do so using bittorrent, as this will allow an easier / faster deployment across our many users. For users in English, the full 7 million entries (including images) will require about 110 Gb of storage (vs. 102 Gb 18 months ago – there were also 800,000 less entries).
It has been a lot of work and we would like to thank everyone involved – starting with the developers, the community, and our funders (NLnet that helped pay the bills and the Wikimedia Foundation for also lending the actual servers).
Once all wikis (about 200 languages) have been updated and no major issue is being flagged, we will move to a quarterly update cycle that will allow us to keep up with maintenance without overly straining our resources.
