We are happy to announce that the new Hotspot Imager is now available to all. The Imager allows anyone to package zim files onto a $60 Raspberry Pi and use it as a simple hotspot to share your favourite educational websites in places without internet access.
What’s new?
- Images now up to 1 TB (from 256 GB);
- Up to 4x faster build time;
- It is also now easier to select and add Android apps to a configuration: among the new apps we’ve added are the Survival Manual and Trail Sense. More will come over the next few months.
- Not sure you will be staying within range? You can now also download the Kiwix readers along with every zim file present on the hotspot;
- A new File Manager is also available for you to add your own content.
The images created will run on Raspberry Pi 3B+, 4, 5 and 400. Please note that the small Raspberry Pi zero 2W is not supported at the moment.
Awesome! Where do I find it?
The code is free to look into, share, improve (GPL-3.0) and available at https://github.com/offspot/imager-service. Those of you who want to skip the fun home compiling part can simply purchase unlimited access to our servers who will do the job for them. At $99, you will have a full month of unlimited image creation to try and build all the configurations that best match your offline needs.
