New content available for download at Kiwix
- The Harmony Project. Sheet music for all the (public domain) classics. Piano not included. LINK
- Toned Ear will help you train your ear and recognizes chords, tones, etc. Practice every day! LINK
- Pokemon Encyclopedia. You may laugh or roll your eyes (I probably did both), but requests for this never stopped coming, so we gave in. LINK
- African Storybooks: Kids stories for all language levels in at least three dozen African languages (+ English and French). LINK
- The Canadian Prepper Youtube channel is also back up. This selection only has the actual prepper/survival playlists in it. LINK
Links will take you to an online demo, but you can download the zim files from your within favourite Kiwix app. To ask for a website to be made available offline, in any language, open a zim request (just check it is under a free/public domain license before you do). LINK
Kiwix is a non-profit
- It is both Free as in Beer (you don’t pay for it), and Free as in Speech (code is fully open-source);
- We collect no personal data, and display no ads;
Your support keeps us going. We had a generous crypto-based donor last January (he paid in USD though), but I doubt he’ll come back in 2024 (and if he does we still prefer USD). Support us! LINK
Some of you may suffer. That is a sacrifice we are willing to make
Kiwix Android 3.8 is finally available! An earlier Android update had made it all but impossible to transfer files from an external drive onto people’s phones, which is a major drag in our case as people would often share zim files or download them on their computer and then transfer on their phone. Warning, the policy remains in place on the playstore, so you’ll have to download the official APK directly from here. You may join our beta-testers for early release and always be ahead of the pack. BETA, APK
Not us, but still cool
- The US Fish and Wildlife Service is currently recruiting a Grizzly Bear Conflict Manager. “The work requires average agility and dexterity.” (italics for added sh*t and giggles). LINK
- Wikipedia’s influence grows, because guess what’s feeding all these brand new AI’s everyone is talking about. Of the 100 most visited pages earlier this year 72 were about movies, actors, athletes and musicians. LINK
Ongoing work
- If you speak German, then the DWDS is about to become you next favourite offline dictionary. If you do not speak German, fear not: we will be using the tech developed here to launch other offline dictionaries in as many languages as we can find, both on iOS and Android. LINK
- Zimit 2.0 is also in the works so that people don’t have to handle the dreaded Service Workers. Next version should be a lot easier to handle and is currently 53% complete. LINK
