Frequently asked questions

  • Does the "Hotspot OS only" work on the Raspberry Pi 2W zero?

    Down arrow

Raspberry Pi 3B, 3B+, 4B, 400, 5 and 500 are supported. The hotspot does NOT work on the Raspberry Pi zero 2W as the device is too limited in memory.

  • How do I use the image I just downloaded?

    Down arrow
    1. Flash your .img file onto a microSD card using Raspberry’s Pi imager. Do not edit parameters at it locks the boot system.
    2. Insert your card into the Raspberry and power it up.
    3. First run: after 4-5 minutes a “kiwix” network (or whatever name you chose on the dashboard) will appear. Connect to it. A captive portal will appear after another few minutes (that delay is only during the intial run)
    4. Follow the instructions from the captive portal that appears, or if it is too slow to show up simply type “http://goto.kiwix.hotspot” (or http://network_name.hotspot) in your favourite browser. Beware to type the full address with http://, and not https!
    5. That’s it. Browse, and enjoy!
  • Can I plug my Kiwix Hotspot onto a screen?

    Down arrow

No, it is not a desktop computer but a wi-fi hotspot. If you were to plug it to a screen you would probably see a command line screen (and no content).

  • Can you ship to [my place]?

    Down arrow

We ship orders using Swisspost Priority plus, and the list of available countries is available here. Shipping takes around 10 working days but this varies largely depending on the country where the delivery takes place.

The website will detect you location and include the corresponding power plug in your order. If you plan on using the hotspot in another country, drop us a note immediately after completing your order so we can swap the plug for a more appropriate one.
